Talma Ski School in brief

Talman Ski School began operations in the winter season of 1986–1987, just a few years after the ski resort opened. Over the decades, we have grown into one of the largest ski schools in Finland, specializing in teaching children and young people how to ski and snowboard.

Our ski school has nearly 100 instructors during the winter season. We offer alpine skiing and snowboarding lessons — from beginner to advanced, in courses and private lessons.

Talma Active Oy is responsible for Talma ski school operations.

Talma Ski Resort has received several awards over the decades; Talma has been selected by the Finnish Ski Resort Association as Ski Resort of the Year 2000, Local Resort of the Year 2011, 2016, 2020 and 2026, Patrol Center of the Year 2025 and Talma Ski School as Ski School of the Year 2010.

Werneri ski school concept

Werneri is a national ski school concept developed by the Finnish Ski Resort Association and used in over 40 ski schools across Finland. The concept is designed specifically with children in mind — learning happens through play and doing, in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.

Talma Ski School has been involved in the development of the Werneri concept and was among the first to test the latest teaching practices. Werneri courses are consistent in content across Finland, which means in practice that a child can start their Werneri studies at Talma and continue them at another ski school — or vice versa.

All of the teachers responsible for our Werneri courses have Werneri instructor training.

Our operating principles

Our teaching starts from the child or learner's own starting point. Everyone learns at a different pace and in a different way — a good teacher recognizes this and adapts their teaching accordingly.

It is important for us to:

Safety first. Helmets are mandatory for all courses and private lessons. We teach slope safety and slope behavior rules right from the start.

Learning through play. Especially in teaching children, doing, playing and experiencing success are more important than technical completion. A child learns best when he or she is having fun.

Individual attention in a group. In group courses, you progress at the pace of the entire group, but a good teacher gives each participant individual feedback and attention.

Integrity. We tell the customer directly which course is best suited — we don't sell the wrong course just because there is an open spot.
