Talma ski school frequently asked questions

You can see the answer by clicking on the + symbol by the question

+ How much earlier should I book instruction?

Both courses and private lessons are recommended to be booked as early as possible to ensure a place on the course or most suitable private lesson time for you. Some of the courses are very popular, so they might fill up early on. Bookings are required at least 24h before course or lesson start time. Possible cancellation spots or last minute bookings can be enquired at the ski school office p. 040-1281419.

+ Should I book a course or private lesson?

Private lessons allow for individual progress and for your wishes to be taken into account in the teaching, so progress can often be faster than on a course. Private lessons can also be booked more flexibly to fit your own schedule. Courses offer the company of peers/kids of a similar age and shared experiences, with progress adapted to the level of the group — individual teaching isn't possible in the same way as in a private lesson. The teaching language on courses is Finnish, while private lessons are also available in other languages.
If more than one person takes part in a private lesson, everyone needs to be doing the same sport and have roughly the same skill level. Note that big age differences between participants, or differences in skill level, will affect how the lesson progresses – teaching always proceeds at the pace of the least experienced participant. We recommend a separate instructor for children and a separate one for adults. For those who need extra support, we also recommend private lessons, as they allow for individual support and a learning pace tailored to the person.

+ Is the ski lift ticket included in the price of the lesson/course?

Yes, it's included. You don't need a lift pass for the duration of the lesson. If you'd like to stay and ski after the lesson on the same day, you can get a lift pass at half price by showing your ski school receipt at the ticket office. The discount applies only to the person who took part in the course or private lesson, not to family members. The discount does not apply to Werneri Park tickets.

+ Is equipment included in the price of the lesson/course?

No, equipment is not included. If needed, you can rent equipment from our rental shop. For all courses, the equipment rental set costs €20 per lesson, and for private lessons the rental shop's standard price list applies. Please arrive at the rental shop about 30 minutes before the lesson starts so you have time to get the right equipment. The rental shop opens 30 minutes before the slopes open.

+ Do I need to register at the ski school office before lesson/course time?

There's no need to check in at the ski school desk, if the lesson has been paid for in advance.. Children attending a Werneri course are given a name sticker for their helmet, which can be picked up from the ski school desk or the rental shop. A new name tag is given for a rented helmet every time. Lessons start at the end of the rental building facing the slopes. Werneri courses gather at the sign with the course's name, and private lessons start at the ski school meeting point sign.

+ Where do I meet the teacher for a private lesson?

If you've paid for the lesson in advance, there's no need to check in at the ski school. At the start of your lesson, you'll meet your instructor at the end of the rental building facing the slopes, by the ski school meeting point sign. If you need to rent equipment, allow at least half an hour before the lesson starts for renting and fitting the gear.

+ Is teaching subject to a weather conditions?

Our ski school has no weather reservation other than a cold limit of -25°C. Lessons take place regardless of weather, so please dress according to the conditions. We recommend dressing in layers and wearing mittens roomy enough to fit wool gloves or mittens underneath if needed. However, please don't wear wool socks inside ski boots.

+ How much time should I allow for renting the equipment?

Please arrive at the rental shop about 30 minutes before the lesson starts so you have time to get the right equipment. The rental shop opens 30 minutes before the slopes open.

+ Can I pay with finnish sport's benefits?

Yes, you can, as well as for equipment rental if needed. We accept ePassi and Edenred. In the ski school's online shop you can pay with ePassi, Edenred can only be used to pay on-site at the ski school. If you'd like to pay with Edenred, please make your booking in advance by emailing hiihdonopetus (at) talmaski.fi and mention which benefit you'd like to use. Payment is then handled at the ski school office before the lesson begins. Equipment rental is paid separately at the rental shop when picking up the equipment.

+ How can I cancel a lesson, or what should I do if I'm unable to attend due to illness?

You can cancel a course or private lesson by emailing hiihdonopetus (at) talmaski.fi. In accordance with the terms and conditions, we will refund the payment if the cancellation is made at least 14 days before the lesson begins. If the cancellation is made less than 14 days but more than 24 hours before the lesson begins, we will refund half of the lesson price. Alternatively, we can agree to move the booking to another date, in which case the full payment transfers to the new booking. If a lesson is cancelled or interrupted due to the customer's illness, the whole lesson or course, or its remaining portion, may be replaced with an equivalent course or part of a course, if the parties agree to this. If a replacement lesson or part of a course cannot be arranged, the customer is entitled to a refund of one third (1/3) of the value of the unused portion of the pre-paid fee. A doctor's certificate or other reliable documentation may be requested in case of illness.

+ What are the ski school's booking and cancellation terms?
